About the School
Mengham Junior School is a two form entry Junior School on Hayling Island on the south coast of England and we have up to 240 children between the ages of 7 and 11.
We pride ourselves on being a school with a happy environment where children can successful gain the skills and passion for a lifelong journey of learning.
We have spacious, bright classrooms, a state of the art library, a music room, a fully equipped kitchen where the children can cook as well as a large kitchen where our lunches are made freshly every day.
Outside we have a large field, 2 playgrounds, an amphitheatre and a sensory garden. Each year group has its own garden area where the children enjoy growing flowers and vegetables.
Mengham Junior School is all about families and school working together to give our children the very best childhood.
Our Governors and Senior Leadership Team have put in place an ambitious School Improvement Plan to ensure that the school continues to improve and develop further on a journey to outstanding.
At Mengham Junior school we aspire for every member of the community to be...
- Successful learners
Above all else we want our children to be successful in their learning. The children understand that in order to be successful they need to have ownership over their learning; taking a part in topic planning. They listen actively and take part in discussion; they are independent or work alongside a teacher in a guided group, they work alongside teachers to identify areas of success and next steps, they are never afraid to ask or make mistakes. Our children are happy, engaged and rightly proud of their learning.
- Confident individuals
We want to prepare or children for the future. Our children are happy to share their learning and achievements through assemblies, through the School Learning Council who present each year to our Governing Body, and through talking to visitors. They teach their parents at the end of topics. We provide opportunities for the children to engage with the local community through clubs, fundraising and visits. Our children take part in residential from sleepovers and camping on site, to off site weeks away. We take every opportunity to enter competitions both locally and nationally; We were very proud in the Spring when 4 of our pupils were shortlisted from 17,340 children to the final three thousand in BBC Radio 2's 500 word writing competition.
- Responsible members of the community
We want our children to understand their place in the community. Our children are polite, honest and well mannered. In addition, they look after their environment in class (with a weekly cup for the tidiest classroom), and in the school grounds. Our Buddies work with staff to ensure that all children feel safe and happy at lunch times. Our ASPIRE behaviour for learning code works well across the school to reward effort and achievements in and outside of school. Our Children take time in the curriculum to explore the wider community and how they help to support it.
At Mengham Junior School, anything is possible when you believe in yourself...
