Learning Support Assistant

Salary Details: HCC C Grade 

Hours of Work: 31.25 Hours per week. Monday-Friday. Term time only

Mengham Junior School is a two-form entry school, set in attractive wraparound grounds, only ½ km from the sea and just 20 minutes from the A27.

We are looking for a friendly, flexible and professional person to join their established learning support team to support children in developing their social and emotional skills in order that they become more able to access their learning.

We are committed to creating an inclusive, nurturing and creative learning environment for our children and our staff have high expectations for all children. You will be working alongside a class teacher to support children with predominately social and emotional needs.  This will be on a 1:1 basis or supporting small groups of children.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Enjoy working with children.
  • Will be committed to enabling children to develop positive learning behaviours and make good progress.
  • Ideally have some awareness of the impact attachment and trauma can have on children.
  • Have a good understanding of the barriers to learning some children may experience.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills with both children and adults.
  • Be able to use their own initiative.
  • Hold a GCSE grade C or equivalent in English and maths.
  • Understand safeguarding and confidentiality procedures.
  • Be patient and resilient.

Please note that the post will also include daily lunchtime duties with a particular focus on encouraging positive play.

Job/Person Summary

We are looking for a cheerful and adaptable person to join our school team.  Responsibilities will include cleaning the school.  Applicants will need to demonstrate that they can work well as part of a team.  Full training and support will be given.

Hours will be split Monday – Friday, before and after school (20 Hours per week)

Grade A
