Year 3 River Trip 16th, 17th and 18th July

16th July 2019

Dear Parents/Carers

As part of our Geography unit this half term, year 3 will be taking part in a river field trip at Dell Quay in Fishbourne, part of Chichester Harbour.  The workshops will allow children to understand the different features of a river system and how basic field study techniques can be used to investigate and record river features.  This will support our topic ‘How different are the Amazon and the River Ems?’.

Lime class will be visiting Dell Quay on Tuesday 16th July
Elm class will be visiting Dell Quay on Wednesday 17th July
Maple class will be visiting Dell Quay on Thursday 18th July

The pupils will be transported to Dell Quay by minibuses.  They will be leaving at 9.00 and will return by 3.20 approximatelyChildren will be expected to wear a school sweatshirt/cardigan and old shorts or old trousers. However, due to the nature of the trip, children will need to bring:
  • a waterproof coat
  • wellies (as long as possible)
  • a plastic bag for sitting on
  • a sunhat and sunscreen
Please provide a packed lunch including a drink (no bottles or cans please) or order a picnic lunch from the school kitchen at a cost of £2.30 (unless you qualify for free school meals).  It is important that you indicate on the reply slip if you would like a school picnic (note that no drink is provided in the school picnic).

A donation of £6.20 is required towards the transport and river workshop costs of this trip and if this should cause any problems please do not hesitate to contact the School Office.  (Please make cheques payable to Mengham Junior School).

Please complete and return the attached permission slip with your donation, in a sealed envelope marked ‘Dell Quay’ to the School Office before Monday 1st July, thank you.

Yours sincerely
