Attendance and Absence
The school actively seeks to promote good attendance by rewarding children and classes whose attendance is good. It is important not only that children attend regularly, but also that they arrive at school on time. This helps pupils learn good time-keeping and reduces classroom disruption.
The school has a computerised registration system. If your child is absent from school please make sure that you contact the school office by 9.20 a.m. every day of the absence. Verbal communications by telephone or personal contact with the school are acceptable in the first instance but must be followed up by a note or e-mail as soon as possible after your child has returned to school.
The school can authorise absence for illness, medical appointments or exceptional circumstances (provided the correct leave of absence form is completed and authorised beforehand). The Headteacher cannot authorise holidays during term time.
“Penalty Notice Warning in accordance with Hampshire County Council’s Code of conduct: If a child has any unauthorised absence during any formal examinations, testing or assessment as publicised via our school website or parent/carer newsletters this will result in the issuing of a Penalty Notice for non-attendance.”
Absence is considered unauthorised when no satisfactory explanation is offered by parents/carers, either on the day in question or retrospectively.
