French

At Mengham Junior School, our French curriculum ensures that pupils

  • understand and respond to spoken and written language from different sources
  • speak with increasing confidence, fluency and spontaneity, finding ways of communicating what they want to say, including through discussion and asking questions, and continually improving the accuracy of their pronunciation and intonation
  • can write at varying length, for different purposes and audiences, using the variety of grammatical structures that they have learnt

Through French, we aim to help pupils develop a love of language, build their awareness of other cultures as well as feel a sense of achievement.

Strategies:

  • French taught weekly throughout the school
  • Some class assemblies showcase French learning.
  • Children have additional opportunities to meet and communicate with children from other countries
